The 7th General Assembly of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) was held in Astana under the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan. About 40 IOFS members, as well as international organizations, participated in the meeting online. The theme of the assembly was "Food Security through Cooperation and Innovation." On May 13, a meeting of senior officials took place. On May 14, the chairmanship of the General Assembly officially passed from the State of Qatar to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov, was elected Chairman. He stated that amid geopolitical instability, climate change, and disruptions to logistics chains, food security is becoming a matter of state resilience and strategic security. Kazakhstan is among the world's top ten largest grain exporters, ranks 2nd in flour exports and 8th in sunflower oil supplies. With a sown area of about 24 million hectares, the country has harvested an average of 27 million tons of crops for two consecutive years.
Agricultural exports reach 15.3 million tons to 50 countries worldwide, including China, Afghanistan, and Central Asian states. Saparov proposed creating a Knowledge Center for Food Security and Innovation as a service platform for all IOFS members. Other initiatives were announced: holding the first Forum of National Agricultural Institutions of OIC countries, declaring 2027 the Year of Women Agricultural Leaders and Young Agropreneurs of the IOFS, and hosting a Global Islamic Exhibition on Food Security. Participants adopted 13 strategic resolutions aimed at forming an architecture for collective food security.
