China Poultry Imports Fall to $2.1B in 2025

China’s poultry import market contracted to $2.1 billion in 2025 due to increased domestic supply, HPAI restrictions, and trade tensions. The U.S. remained the fourth-largest supplier.

China’s poultry and products import market contracted significantly in 2025, with total imports falling to $2.1 billion. The decline was driven by increased domestic supply, import restrictions related to highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), and ongoing trade tensions. The United States remained China’s fourth-largest poultry supplier, with exports dominated by chicken paws. Chicken paws are a popular food in China, particularly in traditional Cantonese cuisine and as ready-to-eat snacks, presenting continued opportunities for U.S.

exporters. The report was published by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service as an Attaché Report (GAIN) on May 20, 2026.
