Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov, held a meeting with the Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike. According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, the agricultural trade turnover between the countries increased by 75%. The parties discussed expanding the export of Kazakh products to Japan, including honey, dairy products, poultry meat, beef, lamb, and deep-processed products. Special attention was given to the export of horse meat: veterinary and sanitary requirements and the certificate form have been agreed upon, and 47 Kazakh companies have been included in Japan's exporter registry.
Under the memorandum between LLP "Zhabyak V i K" and the Japanese Senko Farm, a monthly export of 100 horses is planned—both live weight and as meat products. Work is underway to coordinate requirements for the export of live horses. The Minister noted the potential for supplying Kazakh grain and premium-quality flour to the Japanese market via Russian seaports. Also discussed was the creation of a Research Platform for Sustainable Agriculture based on the Kazakhstan-Japan Innovation Center at KazNAIU.
Saparov reported on support measures for aquaculture: subsidies, preferential lending, and tax incentives. The number of fish farming enterprises in Kazakhstan has exceeded 700 (a 2.5-fold increase), and the volume of fish farming has grown from 9,000 to 26,000 tons per year.
