Vice Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Yermek Kenzhekhanuly, held a meeting with Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Climate and Energy of Latvia, Janis Irbe. The parties discussed trade in agricultural products, transit and logistics cooperation, veterinary and phytosanitary safety. As of the end of 2025, the trade turnover of agricultural products between the countries amounted to $51.4 million. Kazakhstan ranks 10th in the world for grain exports, 2nd for flour exports, and 8th for sunflower oil exports.
The country's agricultural crop acreage totals nearly 24 million hectares. In 2025, the total volume of Kazakhstani crop product transportation through Latvian ports amounted to 750,000 tons, and since the beginning of 2026, 250,000 tons. Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine was signed between the relevant agencies. The parties noted that the document will contribute to expanding mutual trade in agricultural products.
