Russia and Laos Discuss Growth in Agricultural Trade and Fertilizer Supplies

Russia and Laos discussed increased agricultural trade and fertilizer supplies, with Russia offering modernization solutions and cooperation in various agricultural sectors.

Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut held a working meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Laos Linkham Duangsavanh. The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex. According to the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, in 2025, the volume of mutual trade in agricultural products between Russia and Laos increased more than threefold compared to the previous period. In January–May 2026, the positive trend continued: trade turnover grew by one and a half times.

Russia exports fish, sunflower oil, baby food, and other goods to Laos. The key import item is coffee. Lut noted that Russia is ready to offer solutions for modernizing Laos's agriculture, including agrotechnologies. The parties discussed the potential for trade in mineral fertilizers: the Lao side is interested in components for their production.

Also discussed was cooperation in land reclamation, pedigree livestock farming, veterinary science, seed production, and rice cultivation. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to begin preparing a draft memorandum of cooperation in the agro-industrial complex. Lut invited Lao colleagues to the international forum on veterinary safety in Moscow in October 2026.
