In Atyrau, at the "Kazynaly Kaspіy" forum, Serik Sermagambetov, the chairman of the Committee of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reported on the development of the industry. The number of fish farms has reached 700 (a four-fold increase), with an annual production volume of valuable fish species (carp, sturgeon, salmon) of around 26,000 tons. More than 40 investment projects in aquaculture are being implemented, with a total value of around 60 billion tenge. A promising project is the "Organic Fish" LLP for cage farming of sea trout in the Caspian Sea using Norwegian technology (with a capacity of 5,000 tons of products per year).
There are 73 fish processing enterprises, 18 of which are located in the Zhayyk-Kaspiy basin. 20 enterprises have the right to supply products to the EU market. According to the results of 2025, the volume of the fish products market is 108.9 thousand tons (+15%). Exports amount to 21.1 thousand tons to 21 countries (EU, China, Russia).
To combat poaching, a tracking system called "E-fish" was introduced in the fourth quarter of 2025, which prevented the illegal circulation of almost 2,000 tons of products. The Atyrau sturgeon fish farm is being modernized (it has released around 180 million fingerlings over 30 years), with its capacity increasing from 5 million to 7.4 million fingerlings per year.
