According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, as of July 20, 2025, chemical treatment against locust pests has been carried out on an area of 1.3 million hectares, which is 62% of the predicted volume of work for the current year (2.2 million hectares). The treatment is being carried out based on phytosanitary monitoring when the economic threshold of harm is reached. Around 3.5 thousand specialists, 103 unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft, and 556 units of ground equipment are involved in the activities. All regions are provided with pesticides and technical means.
The Ministry of Agriculture notes that since 2025, the treated areas have been decreasing: in 2024, 2.7 million hectares were treated (13% less than in 2023), and in 2025, the forecast is 2.2 million hectares (30% less than in 2024). The decrease in the number of pests is explained by the improvement of plant protection measures. Damage to agricultural fields has not been allowed. The completion of protective measures is scheduled for July 20.
