Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Andrei Razin held district meetings in the Republic of Kalmykia and Stavropol Krai to discuss preparations for harvest work in the Southern and North Caucasus Federal Districts. At the meeting in Elista, it was noted that the Southern Federal District annually produces about a quarter of Russia's grain and leguminous crops, nearly a third of its wheat, 84% of its rice, 20% of its sugar beets, 18% of its oilseeds, and over half of its vegetables. Spring sowing in the district has been completed on an area of 5.7 million hectares. The harvest campaign has already begun in Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, and Adygea.
In Mineralnye Vody, the situation in the North Caucasus Federal District was discussed. This district produces over 9% of Russia's grain and leguminous crops, more than 18% of its grain corn, and over 13% of its rice. The district is a leader in fruit and berry production (over 40% of the national total). Spring sowing has been carried out on 1.6 million hectares.
Harvesting has started in Dagestan and the Chechen Republic, with the active phase set to begin in the coming weeks. Participants discussed the consequences of adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and floods in Dagestan and Chechnya. Issues related to the availability of fuel and lubricants, mineral fertilizers, and machinery were reviewed, along with harvest forecasts and plans for winter crop sowing.
