Forecast of onion and potato balances in Kazakhstan for 2026, with production, export, import, consumption, and per capita figures, noting potential adjustments due to weather conditions.

The Scientific Research Bureau "Grains and Oilseeds. Kazakhstan" together with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented a forecast of the balances of onions and potatoes for 2026. For onions in 2026, the following is expected: production — 908,000 tons (+31,501 tons compared to 2025), exports — 118,000 tons (a decrease of 7,773 tons), imports — 121,000 tons (an increase of 9,369 tons). Losses and industrial consumption — 100,000 tons, population consumption — 802,000 tons, per capita consumption — 39 kg.

For potatoes in 2026, the forecast is: production — 3,000,000 tons (+32,979 tons compared to 2025), exports — 500,000 tons (a decrease of 84,129 tons), imports — 200,000 tons (a decrease of 41,736 tons). Losses and industrial consumption — 518,712 tons, population consumption — 2,165,000 tons, per capita consumption — 105 kg. It is noted that the estimate of domestic production may be adjusted due to dry conditions in the south of the country and excessive moisture in the north. Currently, there are no threats to supply disruptions, and prices and supply remain stable.
