Kazakhstan is launching its first full-cycle project for the industrial production of virus-free seed potatoes. The project is being implemented by the Kazakh Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Production and the South Korean company Vitrosys Agricultural Incorporation. The total investment volume will amount to up to $10 million. The project involves creating an integrated system for the production of virus-free seed potatoes.
Kazakhstan's demand for high-quality seed potatoes is 450-480 thousand tons per year. After the project reaches full capacity, the planned production volumes will allow covering the demand for seed potatoes of categories G1, G2, and G3. In 2027, it is planned to produce 200 thousand virus-free plants and obtain 1.2 million mini-tubers of potatoes. By 2030, the project will reach full industrial capacity with an annual production volume of 3.9 thousand tons of G1 category seed potatoes.
